As I understand it, a pillowcase dress is a simple dress, traditionally made out of a pillowcase. You can keep them plain, or dress them up with color-blocking, fancy ribbon, appliqué, or even layered borders at the hemline. But these days, people make pillowcase dresses out of any kind of fabric, and since my “Sunshine” is so small and just a few months old, I was able to sew this pretty little dress out of two fat quarters and a few notions.

The blogger at Polkadot Chair’s pattern calls for more fabric than I do because she also made a baby quilt that matches the dress. She also instructs you to make your own ruffle. I bought mine premade. Here’s my version:
Materials:
Two matching fat quarters, print from Joanne Fabrics shown below (pre-wash and iron flat)
One spool 3/4″ ribbon (pre-wash)
One yard Pink Box Pleat Taffeta Edging 1 Inch Wide
(pre-wash)
Coordinating thread
Colored undergarment elastic (optional, I used it like bias tape to edge the sleeves.
Printed quilting cotton
The pattern directs you in how to cut this trapezoid.
I used a rotary cutter and two smaller plastic rulers to cut the line from the neckline to the hem. At home I have a Omnigrip 6-Inch-by-24-Inch Non-Slip Quilter’s Ruler
