My Filter, a poem

Sometimes my filter falls off of my face.
The words fall right out–
Get all over the place.
True feelings reveal
Emotions.
Impulses.
The thoughts that I try
To hide deep inside.

I hate to be a hater,
Or be snide or rude or cross.
But the looks some people give me
Leave my nice side at a loss.
The double sided figures in my life have played a part
In creating something bitter.
Sour.
Ugly.
Torn apart.

And the losses that have left me empty,
Crying for a better place.
Sometimes surface like the waves rising up to take the place

Of blessings that I know I have,
And friendships flowing strong.
Of Sunshine warm upon my face,
Of family and of song.

I’ve love and happiness galore!
And that’s what I’d rather share,
Than hurt or desperation,
Or not giving a care.

But sometime you may see a side of me
That you would rather not.
Maybe I wasn’t kind or nice,
Maybe I forgot.
It just might be
That on that day,
My filter got away.

  1. I can relate with the emotions here. I love this part so much:
“I hate to be a hater,
Or be snide or rude or cross.
But the looks some people give me
Leave my nice side at a loss. ”

    Thanks for sharing, Mama Shauna.
